Here's a preview of the next municipal equation. Autonomous vehicles or driverless cars are clogging up the Twitter feeds for people who follow technology and transportation. Cities too, but they still just sound so futuristic. Do local government officials really need to start taking this stuff seriously?

Driverless vehicles? Absolutely. We need to take this seriously. Auto manufacturers and other actors in this space are all competing with one another and making competing promises to deploy by 2019, 2020, 2021. And if local government officials started thinking about this yesterday, it might feel like a crunch to figure out how this is going to impact the community, to initiate public engagement and education, to get feedback from the public, and then subsequently to craft a regulation that makes sense for everyone.

Alright. Let's talk about it. Autonomous vehicles and what we need to be thinking about right now to get ready, and why it all makes me think of a certain Corey Haim Corey Feldman movie.
